My father Cephalus was induced by Pericles to come to this country,1 and dwelt in it for thirty years: never did he, any more than we,2 appear as either prosecutor or defendant in any case whatever, but our life under the democracy was such as to avoid any offence against our fellows and any wrong at their hands.
