[15] Well then, is it to get back the Chersonese, our colonies, our landed property abroad, and the debts owed us?1 A war for their recovery needs the support of the king of Persia and our allies, and they refuse that support. Or shall I be told that we must continue fighting until we have crushed Sparta and her allies? We are not adequately equipped, in my opinion, for a campaign on such a scale; and if we are successful, what must we ourselves expect from Persia afterwards?

1 i.e. all that had been lost when the empire collapsed in 404.
