Before speaking of the law that I have indicted, I wish to give
you a brief account of the existing statutes under which indictments of this
kind are laid; for after hearing this account you will find the information
useful for the rest of my speech. In our laws at present in force, men of
Athens, every condition that
must be observed when new statutes are to be enacted is laid down clearly and
with precision.
