Date Description:
Late in black figured-technique, but excellent execution.
Condition:
Added white for female flesh has largely disappeared.
Decoration Description:
Body: Europa on the bull. The bull moves to the right with Europa on his back. She holds on with her left hand and steadies herself with her right. She wears a chiton and himation, both decorated with red and white spots. She has a red fillet in her hair. On her feet and right hand are traces of white, apparently the color used for all exposed flesh, mostly disappeared. Behind her to the left is a girl in right profile with white flesh. Wearing a red fillet on her head, she is dressed in a long chiton and himation, decorated with red dots. To the right is a bearded Hermes, facing the bull, wearing a short chiton and chlamys, both decorated with red and white spots. He wears a petasos on his head and winged boots on his feet. In his right hand he holds a kerykeion. There is conventional foliage in the field.
On the shoulder there are running palmettes and at the junction of shoulder and neck, short vertical rays/tongues. Accessories are in added red and white.
