Date Description:
The date of the Hermes is extremely controversial and as yet undetermined. Most scholars now believe it is a work of the Hellenistic period rather than of the 4th century.
Condition: Nearly complete
Condition Description:
Hermes lacks the lower legs (the right foot is original), the right forearm including the elbow and various small pieces. Dionysos' left shoulder/upper arm and parts of the torso are also restored.
Collection History:
Excavated by the Germans at Olympia in 1877.
