Obverse Type: Commodus, in military garb, stands in 3/4-view to the right, toward the draped figure of Africa (the personification of the province), who reclines to the left. He holds a parazonium and a reversed spear on an elephant-scalp helmet. Africa, caressing a lion with her right hand, holds two ears of wheat in her left hand. Between them stands winged, draped Victoria (Victory), in profile to the right, placing a shield on a trophy.
