Obverse Type: Forepart of lion, profile to the left, head reverted (incuse)

Commentary: Evidently a brocage of the issue of 1301-7, although the reverse die is not the same as the obverse die. The explanation would seem to be that more than one obverse die was seated in the anvil, and that a coin struck from one lion in the anvil adhered to the punch die and struck a second flan which had been placed on a different lion. The obverse die appears to be that used for McClean 4063, whose reverse has two pellets, A and an uncertain symbol.
