Cooks cutting up a tunny (sacrifice?). A man holds a large tunny over a pillar-shaped cutting block, gripping it by the belly-fin and tail. Another man raises a large knife, preparing to cut off the head of the fish; his left hand is held up in warning. Behind the cutting block stands a long table for laying out the portions. A large skyphos or krater for the refuse stands on the ground in front of the cutting block. Two dogs watch the proceedings, the small dog standing behind the legs of the man on the right, the larger dog behind the man on the left. The men have tied their mantles around their waists, and wear wreaths made from leafy branches.

Collection History:

The vase once belonged to the Canino collection. It was acquired by the museum in 1841.
