But if we are forbidden to add anything to
the existing stock of knowledge, how can we ever
hope for the birth of our ideal orator? For of all
the greatest orators with whom we are as yet acquainted, there is not one who has not some
deficiency or blemish. And even those who do
not aim at supreme excellence, ought to press
toward the mark rather than be content to follow
in the tracks of others.
