But the man who to these good qualities
adds his own, that is to say, who makes good deficiencies and cuts down whatever is redundant, will
be the perfect orator of our search; and it is now
above all times that such perfection should be
attained when there are before us so many more
models of oratorical excellence than were available
for those who have thus far achieved the highest
success. For this glory also shall be theirs, that
men shall say of them that while they surpassed
their predecessors, they also taught those who came
after.
