But if you were perhaps swayed by the omen of your name,
still we, according to the precedent of our ancestors, because we think that a fortunate omen,
interpret it not to the injury of others, but to their safety. But all that rapidity and
haste, the fact of your having put an end to the investigation and to the whole of the
previous trial, has made that plain and notorious—which, however, was never a
secret—that this trial was contrived, not for the sake of justice, but because of
the consular comitia.
