ἦν δ᾽ οὗτος ἁνὴρ εὔχαρίς τε οὐχ ἧττον τοῦ Θίβρωνος, μᾶλλόν τε συντεταγμένος καὶ ἐγχειρητικώτερος στρατηγός. οὐδὲ γὰρ ἐκράτουν αὐτοῦ αἱ τοῦ σώματος ἡδοναί, ἀλλ᾽ ἀεὶ πρὸς ᾧ εἴη ἔργῳ, τοῦτο ἔπραττεν. ὁ δ᾽ Ἔκδικος ἐπεὶ εἰς τὴν Κνίδον ἔπλευσε καὶ ἐπύθετο τὸν ἐν τῇ Ῥόδῳ δῆμον πάντα κατέχοντα, καὶ κρατοῦντα καὶ κατὰ γῆν καὶ κατὰ θάλατταν διέπλεον διπλασίαις τριήρεσιν ἢ αὐτὸς εἶχεν, ἡσυχίαν ἦγεν ἐν τῇ Κνίδῳ.
