But in my case, fourteen talents
in ten years, when consideration is given to the time and the terms of his
lease, ought to have been more than trebled. Ask him why he did not do this. If
he declares that it was better not to let the estate, let him show, not that it
has been doubled or trebled, but that the mere principal has been paid back to
me in full. But if out of fourteen talents they have handed over to me not even
seventy minae, and one of them has actually recorded me as in his debt, how can
it be right to accept any word they say? It is surely impossible.
