Indeed in my view he merits the severest
punishment, not merely for proposing this law, but for revealing to everyone
else a method of destroying the courts of Justice, restoring exiles, and
introducing every sort of atrocity. If the author of this law goes on his way
rejoicing, what is there, gentlemen of the jury, to prevent another man from
coming forward to overthrow our most powerful institutions with a fresh statute?
