LOVE STORIES (AMATORIAE NARRATIONES)
INTRODUCTION
These five short stories are interesting to the modern
reader chiefly as examples of the kind of tale which
appealed to the readers of Plutarch's time ; for they
were probably written during his lifetime, though
not by him. In style and content they differ greatly
from his genuine works. The elements of passion
and of sentimental love are made to appear important in them rather on account of their dire
consequences than for their own sake.
