Brill's New Pauly: "Graeco-Latin poet (about AD 400) from Alexandria.
C. first wrote Greek poetry of which the opening of a ‘gigantomachy is preserved, whose
praefatio in elegiac distichs indicates recitation in Alexandria. Of the seven epigrams in
the Anthologia Palatina attributed to a Klaudianos (see Claudius Claudianus [3]), four were
written by this C. (5,86,, 9,140. 753f.)....C. was one of those ‘wandering poets’ [4], who
earned their living by composing and reciting such epics and made a career in the service of
various employers..." Hofmann, Heinz (Tübingen). "Claudianus." Brill's New Pauly. Antiquity
