"
"Under the lemma Ἀρχίου, the Anthologia Palatina records 37 epigrams (disputed are Anth. Pal.
5,98; 6,194; 7,165; 9,27; 64; 357; 16,154); sometimes the name is more closely defined as γραμματικοῦ (6,194),
Μακεδόνος (7,140), Βυζαντίου (7,278), Μυτιληναίου (7,696; 9,19; 111; 339), and νεωτέρου (9,91; 10,10):
five different poets, all of whom otherwise unknown. All attempts to attribute the material --
predominantly pedantic imitations, especially of Leonidas and of Antipater of Sidon -- to any individual poet
within this group, have met with failure. It seems very likely that some of these poems were written by
Licinius Archias of Antioch, Cicero's famous contemporary (cf. SH 194-199)." in Degani, Enzo (Bologna).
