Decoration Description:

Love-making (naked girl climbing on to a boy's lap). The painting is limited to a rather small but charming image on the shoulder of the vase. A young man sits facing right. He leans back in his chair, his arms at his sides with his hands gripping the seat of the chair, his mantle pushed down around his knees. A young girl (hetaira?), naked except for a wide band around her hair, is preparing to straddle his uncovered lap. Their foreheads are together and they gaze into one another's eyes with a tenderness rare in the period.

Shape Description:

Rather rare Shape 9 oinochoe.

Collection History:

From the collection of von Koller.
