Decoration Description:
Tondo: standing on exergue is a bearded male facing front. His weight is on his right leg; his left knee is bent with his foot behind him. He wears a mantle brought over his left shoulder, exposing the right shoulder and chest. With his right hand on his hip and his left arm extended, his hand is holding the end of a staff. His head, seen in right profile, wears an ivy wreath. Facing him is a nude youth wearing a laurel wreath, his legs in left profile, torso three-quarters turned to the front. He stands on a two-stepped starting block and holds an aryballos and sponge in his left hand. In the field are an aryballos and sponge suspended from a nail. An upended pick is set in the ground in front of the base.
Exterior, side A: a striding youth with a mantle draped over his shoulders carries a skyphos in his left hand and a staff supporting an oinochoe in his right. Inscribed in field above tip of staff:
Side B: a standing bearded male extends his left hand to the approaching youth, who carries a skyphos in his extended right hand, a staff in his left. Both figures are nude, with mantles draped over their shoulders. The remainder of the scene consists of a beardless youth in right profile, nude except for a mantle over his shoulders, playing flutes. In front of him is a maiden, of whom only a part of her pleated chiton and mantle survives.
Relief contour is used throughout the interior and exterior, except for some feet on the exterior. The hairline is reserved at the forehead and nape and incised at the crown. Dilute glaze is used for inner markings. Added red includes the interior wreath, javelin loop, string and wristband of aryballoi, nail securing one aryballos, lettering; exterior lettering. A graffito appears on the underside of the foot.
